Popular kids fade styles
| Style | What it is | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| Low taper | Short only at the sideburns and neckline | Young kids, strict school rules |
| Low fade | Fade starts just above the ears | A sharp look that stays neat |
| Mid fade with length on top | Fade to the temples, top kept longer | Older kids and teens who like to style |
| Crop with a fade | Short textured top pushed forward | Thick or wavy hair, low maintenance |
| Fade with curls on top | Short sides, natural curls kept on top | Curly hair |
Skin or no skin for kids?
A skin fade shows more scalp and grows out faster. For younger children, or kids with sensitive skin, a fade that stops at a number 1 or 2 is gentler and lasts longer between visits. Ask the barber if you are unsure.
Tips for a smooth visit
- Bring a photo of the style your child likes
- Check your school's rules on fades and designs first (see our school haircut guide)
- Tell the barber if your child is nervous or sensitive to clippers
- Book a time when your child is usually calm and not hungry or tired
If clippers, noise or touch are hard for your child, read our guide for sensory-sensitive kids.
